TONY JACKSON - A STRAIGHT SHOOTER

Gaff,
I spoke with Harvey Jackson 2 days ago.
The family was hit hard, Tony was given 4 months to live 18 months ago. He fought hard for his life.
Harvey was my teammate, along with Alan Fisher at the Brownsville Boy's Club almost 45 years ago.
I playedagainst all the Jackson brothers at the BBC. Brooklyn lost a true legend of Basketball. Tony Jackson was the best pure shooter to ever light up the nets in N.Y.C.
Unfortunately he too was wrongfully linked to Jack Molinas, along with Roger and Hawk. After a great career at St. John's University, Tony played with the N.Y. Nets for a few years and that was it.
Another part of our youth and Brooklyn B-Ball has died.
Harvey saidhe hopes he can get the words out at the wake.
For the record, Roger broke Tony Jackson's PSAL scoring records, but, Roger did it in 4 years, Tony did it in 3.

Just received word that Tony Jackson passed last night. Not only one of the greatest players I have ever seen, but more importantly, a great human being and a dear friend.
Thanks for the info on the http://www.redmen.com/ site.
It was nice to see others have so many good things to say aboutTony. I can not begin to express the level of respect and love that I have for him.
He was a special person in so many ways. Peace and Love

Tony Jackson was such an awesome presence, in his gentle and beautiful personage. He was a giant on the basketball court and as a genuine person, as well . I had the occassion to speak with Tony nearly a year ago, little did I know that would be the last time in this life that we would have the opportunity to speak to each other.
Tony made a difference in the lives of many. He certainly made a difference in my life by building life long cherished memories in basketball and with his fellow basketball players.

Tony Jackson - A true master of the Game, and friend to all he came in contact with. I am blessed to have witness him play the game up-close. I will pass on this sad notice to others that saw the giant play.

I never met him, nor saw him play, however; from the stories that I did hear.......he must have been a class act on and off the court. His skills and personality touched many lives. I've heard many Tony Jackson stories from many folks. His legend will surely live on in the hearts and minds of this city and beyond.

TONY JACKSON SET THE STANDARD FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE PLAYERS WHO CAME AFTER HIM -- HE WAS A LEGEND AND LEGENDS ARE IN SHORT SUPPLY - IT IS SAD TO LOSE ONE OF THE YOUNGEST AND GREATEST.

ONE TERM THAT COMES TO MY MIND IN THINKING ABOUT TONY JACKSON IS - SPORTSMAN, IN THE FULL SENSE OF THE CONCEPT - THE PURITY OF HIS APPROACH TO COMPETITION.
I ONCE SAW BOBBY ORR PLAY HOCKEY AND I KNEW AND STILL KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HOCKEY, BUT I RECOGNIZED ORR AS BEING GREAT JUST FROM A FEW MINUTES OF OBSERVATION -- IT WAS THE PURITY OF HIS ACTIONS AND REACTIONS --
TONY HAD THAT SAME QUALITY, A NATURALNESS TO EVERY ACTION AND REACTION - A FEELING THAT HE WAS IN CONTROL AT ALL TIMES - HE WAS ABOVE THE FRAY.
MY REGARDS TO HARVEY, HE TOO IS A CLASS ACT, BUT THAT IS NOT A RARE QUALITY AMONG THE JACKSONS.

GOD BLESS HIM / TAKE CARE - GAFF
